August 4: Fairytale Retellings I Have Read/Want to Read

Series I have read + New Releases

The Lunar Chronicles

Cinder (The Lunar Chronicles, #1)Scarlet (The Lunar Chronicles, #2)Cress (The Lunar Chronicles, #3)Winter (The Lunar Chronicles, #4)

As far as I’m concerned, this is the only fairytale retelling that needs to exist. I have gone on and on about this series for so long now, so it’s pretty obvious that it’s my favorite. of course, I haven’t read Winter yet, because there are still months of waiting, and I’m not a time traveler like the Doctor. But, when it does come out, I am sure I will love it like the rest of the books

Throne of Glass Series

Throne of Glass (Throne of Glass, #1)Crown of Midnight (Throne of Glass, #2)Heir of Fire (Throne of Glass, #3)Queen of Shadows (Throne of Glass, #4)

I didn’t even know I could use this series until I saw some other people put it on their top ten list. APPARENTLY, this series is like a losely based Cinderella story. I just stared at the screen for awhile because I honesty never thought of that. Never while reading the first 3 books did that occur to me, and now I feel really dumb for not catching it. Again, I haven’t read Queen of Shadows yet (1 MORE MONTH) but I know it’ll be amazing.

fairytale Retellings I want to read

Blank 133x176This blank cover represents Heartless by Marissa Meyer. You may know that she is also the wonderful lady that wrote The Lunar Chronicles. She is now an author that when they release something I will buy it. There’s no cover yet, because it’s more than a year away, but I’m sure this Alice in Wonderland story will be great. (This just goes to show how much I love her as an author, because I really don’t Alice in Wonderland, but I will read her story)

A Court of Thorns and Roses (A Court of Thorns and Roses, #1) This book came out early this year, so I don’t feel too  bad about not reading it yet. After I finish Assassin’s blade, I may turn to this for more Sarah J. Maas writing. Everyone seems to love this book, so I’m sure I will too.

  1. Check out A Whole New World by Liz Braswell, I haven’t read it yet but I’ve heard good things. Also, one that comes out next year is The Forbidden Wish by Jessica Khoury. Both are supposed to be Aladdin retellings btw.

  2. OMG me too! I want more Arabian Nights YA retellings. I haven’t read The Wrath and the Dawn but I’m so excited for it. I know that there is an Aladdin retelling coming out sometime this year called “A Whole New World” but many people that have read ARCS have said that the first half is basically the Disney movie without the music. Until a quality Aladdin retelling comes out, I’m gonna stick to just watching the movie lol. Great list!

  3. As mentioned by commenters above, there’s two Aladdin retellings coming out in the YA genre to sate your needs. Throne of Glass is such a ridiculously loose retelling of Cinderalla I am so surprised to see it make onto so many lists? Haha.
