New Year, New TBR: Cleaning My Goodreads Account (VERY OVERDUE!)

New Years is famous for inspiring people with a fresh start. You know the saying–“new year, new me.” People invest in gym memberships, pledge to eat better, decide they will clean the house each day. This time of year is full of wrapping up “mistakes” and giving yourself a fresh, new start. For me, it’s my goodreads

I’ll admit it–I’m terrible at using Goodreads. I love the concept, don’t get me wrong. I have spent many hours on the website, clicking book after book trying to find something to read. Over time, though, my TBR shelf got a little out of control. I was getting too click-happy when it came to that “want-to-read” button. I stopped using the feature because my shelf was full of books I had no interest in reading anymore. In honor of the new year, I performed the daunting task and deleted many books.

My taste in YA books have gradually changed and my tbr shelf no longer reflected that. It was interesting to see what old me wanted to read. Some of the books I deleted I had completely lost interest in. Others I think I would somewhat enjoy now, but I rather prioritize things I know I have a chance of loving. I even got a chance to go through and “order” them based off priority. Here are the top five books on my TBR:

So here’s my new years resolution–I want to start using goodreads properly! I want to get in the habit of logging my books when I read them so at the end of the year I am not stuck counting on my fingers. I want my TBR shelf to be an accurate representation of what I want to read.

Through the Dark Cover Reveal!

So I was browsing online yesterday and I saw in big letters ALEXANDRA BRACKEN COVER REVEAL TO NEW BOOK. With it, there was a picture of The Darkest Minds series so immediately I get excited (not going to lie, I thought it was going to be another book). Apparently, she is releasing a novella collection called Through the Dark this October. Here is the cover…

Through the Dark

I’m not going to lie, this isn’t my favorite cover. I love the Darkest Minds covers, but this one just looks like the sample coves you see on goodreads before the actual cover is released. I knew she had some novellas already, but I never got to read them. I’ll definitely pick this up in October since all three of the stories are now together (I love collections).

I’m not sure what these novellas are about, but I am praying that Liam and Ruby show up. Like they could be in the background and I would be happy. Even an extra story about Chubs or Zu would make me happy. I just miss this characters way too much.

So are you guys going to read it? I know there aren’t many Darkest Minds fans out there (which is completely messed up). I personally don’t read novella until they are in a physical collection, because I don’t like buying a 50 page story for 2 dollars on my kindle.

January 2015 TBR

It’s a brand new year with brand new books! Today I will be talking about the books I want to read in January and some of the books coming out that I find interesting.

First off we have to do the Monthly TBR drawing from my jar. For the month of January, my theme is……… Read a Classic!

For my classic book, I have decided to read Macbeth by Shakespeare. Yes, I know this is technically a play but I have the book and can read it, therefore it counts. I started reading it the other day and I followed along with an audio version. Not only that, but the copy I bought has the original on one side, and an explained version on the other page. This helps when I come across something that doesn’t make much sense.

No matter what, I will definitely be reading I Was Here by Gayle Forman and Fairest by Marissa Meyer. They are two books that I have been waiting to read for some time now, and I am very excited that they are both so near! Of course they had to come out on the same day, so I will probably read whichever one I get first.

Now those three books are definitely ones I want to read in January, even though it may be hard since two come out on the 27th. After looking up releases in January, these books caught my eye.

  • Playlist for the Dead: I was very intrigued by the idea of this book when I was reading the summary. Although it may not be this month, I would love to read this book sometime.
  • All Fall Down: I have been waiting forever for another Ally Carter book and there finally is one. I loved the Heist Society books (I’m still waiting for the 4th one) and this one seems like it will be pretty interesting
  • All the Bright Places: I’m not sure about this one yet. I feel like this is a book that could be very good or the opposite. They say it is a mixture of The Fault in our Stars and Eleanor & Park, and while I adore those two books, it makes me nervous when things are compared to them.

Anyway those are my thoughts on January. I don’t have much on here because I don’t want to make myself read these if I don’t feel like it at the time. All I want is to read the books I feel like reading.

Monthly TBR Jar Challenge

I saw this before and I was really interested in making one myself. It is a jar that have 12 slips of paper and each has a category. You draw one at the beginning of the month and you have to read a book in the specific category. For example if it said “read a book published before 2014″,” the book you read would have to follow that. I was inspired to do this by Kat at Katytastic on youtube. I used some of her questions but also made some of my own. Here is her video explaining her jar: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dsxx9UYM5x0

So for my challenge, I took a small mason jar and cut strips of construction paper. On each piece of paper I wrote down these twelve themes/categories.

  • Reread a favorite book
  • Read a book you never got to finish
  • Read a book that has been adapted into a movie
  • Read an awarded book
  • Read a classic
  • Read a new author
  • Read a book that starts a new series
  • Finish a series
  • Read a book written by your favorite author that you haven’t read before
  • Read a book that has been sitting on your shelf
  • Read a book published in 2015

After that I just made a label and my jar was finished. This looks like it will be a very fun way to eliminate books you want to read but still you give you a choice in the book. I chose all of those above because they were more broad and I knew I could find many books to fit under each category. However if you wanted to, you could always narrow it down more by making the theme more specific. For example you could say “read a new contemporary book by an author new to you” or if you want to be really creative say something like “read a book with a piece of fruit on the cover.” The questions are really up to you.

Okay, so I’m going to divide this into winter-themed books and then just normal books I want to read during the winter season.

Winter-Themed Books

1. Let it Snow by John Green: This is a combination of short stories that I am really excited to read. Around the Christmas season, it is easy to read cute Christmas stories, so I am super excited to read this one!

2. My True Love Gave to Me by pretty much everyone: Alright so you may have seen me going on and on about this book a little book ago. Someone, I have been able to restrain myself from reading it, so now I can read it during December! I am beyond stoked fr this book, and there are so many amazing authors I can’t wait to read from.

3. Dash and Lily’s Book of Dares by Rachel Cohn and David Levithan: I haven’t looked much into this book, but I bought it when it was on sale a while ago. Since then, I have heard great things about this Christmas-y read, and I am now really ready to start reading this one!

Normal Books

4. Throne of Glass: This is the next book I am reading!

5. Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor: On my list of series I want to read!

6. Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin: Been waiting for last one to marathon series soon!

7. Angelfall by Susan Ee: Not sure what this series is about, but I want to find out.

8. Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen: Picked this up the other day and loving it so far!

9. Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold: This was a gift given to me, and I have been waiting to read it some time.
That’s all I could think of right now! I’m sure more books will pop up later.

August TBR List

Hello! Tomorrow is the first day of August, so I decided to show you guys the books I want to read this month.

Number 1 on my list this month is Isla and the Happily Ever After!

I absolutely loved Anna and the French Kiss and Lola and the Boy Next Door This book comes out on August 14th.

Next I want to read is Aristotle an Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe.

I picked this book up a week ago and I am really excited to read it. I have heard sooo many good things on it, and the cover is just absolutely beautiful.

Next on my list is Throne of Glass and Crown of Midnight both by Sarah J. Maas.

These two books look absolutely amazing, and I am reading them so I can get ready for the 3rd book, Heir of Fire, which I believe is coming on sometime in September. I have heard these are amazing fantasy books, which is exactly what I have been looking for.

This book I actually started already, but I want to finish it this month, and that is The 5th Wave.

From what I have read so far, this book seem really good. I love the idea of the aliens, and I definitely want to finish before the sequel comes out!

Finally, here are some series starters that I own that I would like to start this month..
– The Darkest Minds Trilogy
– Daughter of Smoke and Bone Trilogy

This is it for now, becuase August is going to be a pretty busy month for me. Hopefully I will be able to read more, but these 5 books

Back again!

I think I finally got everything set up and now I should be able to start posting! Now that Find me at the Library is running, I’ll explain what exactly I plan on doing with this book blog.

As of right now I have 3 categories: Book Reviews, Release Dates, and TBR (Abbreviation for ‘to be read’). In the Book Reviews Category, this is where I will all my thoughts on books I have read. My goal is to at least put a little review up for each book I read. However, I have also read many other amazing books that I would like to show you, so I will also have ‘Redo Reviews’. These will be reviews on some of my favorite books and series.

In the Release Dates category, I will be posting the release dates on some of the most anticipated books. Here you will also be able to find announcements on new books and news on the publication of these books.

And finally, in the TBR category, I will just post some of the books that I currently really want to read. Here you can find my monthly ‘to be read’ post which will include all the books I want to try to read that month. I will also post my end of the month wrap ups here, which will show what books I finished that month.

I hope to add more category as time goes on, but these are the main three right now. I will also be posting about movie adaptions, hauls, and author news as well, but those posts for now will just be shown on the home screen. I look forward to start posting!
